Did you Know?

Toyota is actively pursuing its carbon neutrality goals through a diverse approach, and the introduction of the Grand Highlander Hybrid and Hybrid MAX further reinforces this commitment. These two models align with Toyota’s “Beyond Zero” vision, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality across products, services, and operations while making a positive impact on the planet and society.

To support its carbon reduction efforts, Toyota offers a wide range of electrified vehicles, providing customers with 15 options to choose from. This lineup includes 11 hybrid models, two plug-in hybrid models, the bZ4X battery electric vehicle, and the hydrogen fuel cell electric Mirai, which is currently available in California. Toyota’s extensive range of low and zero-emissions vehicles sets it apart as the automaker offers customers the greatest variety of options to reduce their carbon footprint.

Toyota Grand Highlander Performance

In the first-ever Grand Highlander, Toyota offers a compelling choice between performance and efficiency to suit different preferences. The gas engine variant delivers 265 horsepower and achieves a 0-60 time of 7.5 seconds (FWD), while the hybrid powertrain offers 245 horsepower and a 0-60 time of 7.8 seconds (AWD). The Hybrid MAX powertrain takes performance to the next level, making the Grand Highlander the most powerful Midsize SUV ever produced by Toyota. With 362 horsepower, 400 pound-feet of torque, and a 0-60 time of 6.3 seconds, it offers impressive acceleration. Additionally, the Hybrid MAX powertrain boasts a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs.

In terms of efficiency, the gas powertrain achieves an EPA-estimated 24 combined MPG for the XLE FWD, while the hybrid powertrain achieves an EPA-estimated 36 combined MPG for the XLE FWD. The Hybrid MAX powertrain achieves an EPA-estimated 27 combined MPG.

AWD Options for Enhanced Performance

All powertrain options available for the vehicle can be equipped with all-wheel drive (AWD). The 2.4L turbo gas engine and the efficient 2.5L hybrid offer AWD as an optional feature, while the powerful Hybrid MAX comes standard with AWD.

The gas models feature Dynamic Torque Control AWD, which actively distributes torque between the front and rear axles, as well as between the two rear wheels. This system uses an electromagnetic coupling located ahead of the rear differential to engage or disengage the rear wheels as necessary. As a result, it improves traction and enhances driving stability.

The hybrid models utilize Electronic On-Demand AWD, which provides excellent fuel efficiency, start-off acceleration, handling, and stability. This system achieves stable performance by driving the rear wheels with an electric motor, ensuring traction in slippery conditions. The distribution of driving force between the front and rear wheels is precisely controlled within a range of 100:0 to 20:80, optimizing fuel efficiency and delivering a comfortable driving experience.

For the HYBRID MAX variant, Full-Time Electronic AWD is paired with the powertrain, offering an exhilarating driving experience with exceptional controllability. It transfers power to the front and rear wheels through a front-mounted hybrid motor and a rear-mounted eAxle electric motor. This system ensures stable AWD performance and satisfying acceleration, particularly when combined with a direct shift six-speed automatic transmission. The Full-Time Electronic AWD adjusts the power split between the front and rear wheels, ranging from 70:30 to 20:80, depending on the driving situation. This advanced AWD system enhances the driving force of the rear wheels, delivering a sense of maneuverability akin to rear-wheel-drive while maintaining straight-line stability and providing responsive acceleration.

Design

The Grand Highlander boasts a distinctive and aesthetically pleasing exterior design, complemented by a spacious interior across all three rows. Taking inspiration from the Highlander’s shape, the front of the vehicle features a trapezoidal, hammerhead grille and the option for 20″ wheels.

The elegance of the design extends to the rear, with a sleek rear bumper that adds a touch of sophistication. The Hybrid MAX variant takes it up a notch with dual exhaust tips that are exposed as a standard feature.

Not only is the exterior visually appealing, but it also serves a functional purpose. The wide rear doors provide easy access to the third-row seats, enhancing convenience. The side surface of the vehicle flows seamlessly from the doors through the fenders to the front and rear tires, creating a dynamic and sleek appearance. The Hybrid MAX models offer unique bumpers and two-tone wheels with black accents, adding a premium touch. The design prioritizes exterior visibility by incorporating a low hood line and large side glass windows, ensuring confidence when driving in urban environments.

The thoughtful and spacious design ethos carries over to the interior of the Grand Highlander. The soft-padded instrument panel hovers above wood-effect ornamentation that seamlessly extends into the door trim. A functional tray-shape is integrated between the instrument panel and door trim.

The form of the instrument panel extends into the door trim, emphasizing the width of the cockpit. The center console features independent armrests for the driver and passenger, allowing comfortable use regardless of whether the console lid is open or closed. The interior exudes modern and refined elegance, with high-quality stitchwork adding to the overall aesthetic.

Drivers will appreciate the available leather-trimmed seats with 10-way power adjustments for the driver and 8-way adjustments for the passenger (Limited and Platinum models). The Hybrid MAX variant offers an exclusive experience with Ultrasuede® and leather-trimmed seats, complemented by bronze-colored accents throughout the cabin.
