BMW Introduces Their New 2024 BMW 5 Series

The 2024 BMW 5 series has traditionally occupied the middle ground in BMW’s sedan lineup, appealing to buyers who desire a size that is not as large as the 7-series but more spacious than the 3-series. The upcoming next generation of the 5-series stays true to this narrative, offering a roomy interior equipped with luxurious features.

The new 5-series boasts a digital dashboard with BMW’s iDrive 8.5 interfaces and the option for the company’s hands-free driver-assistance system. In the previous generation, some of the sporty handlings were compromised in favor of comfort, but BMW seems to have learned from the new 7-series and incorporated a more driver-focused approach in its larger sedans. Despite the current 5-series still being relatively recent, having received an update a few years ago, this complete redesign ensures its competitiveness against rivals like the Audi A6, Genesis G80, and the newly redesigned Mercedes-Benz E-class.

What’s New in the Latest 2024 BMW 5 Series?

BMW is currently in the process of developing the next generation of the 5-series sedan, which will include an all-electric i5 variant as well as a high-performance M5 sports sedan. It is anticipated that these new models will be available for purchase at dealership locations before the end of 2023.

Despite receiving a redesign for the 2024 model year, the 5-series continues to offer familiar powertrains and trim levels. The lineup begins with the entry-level 530i model and progresses to the more potent 540i xDrive trim. While there are plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid variant later on, our preferred configuration from the previous generation was the inline-six 540i, and we are inclined to suggest it once again.

How’s the Engine & Performance of 2024 BMW 5 Series?

In 2024, the BMW 5-series will be available in two configurations: the 530i and 540i. The 530i will feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 255 horsepower, with the option of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. The 540i, on the other hand, will come standard with all-wheel drive and a turbocharged inline-six engine generating 375 horsepower. Both models will be equipped with a 48-volt hybrid system. According to BMW, the 540i is expected to achieve a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.5 seconds.

The introduction of a plug-in hybrid powertrain is anticipated for the 2025 model year. Once we have the opportunity, we will thoroughly test the new 5-series on our track and provide updates on performance results and driving impressions in this article.

Changes in the Interior of the All New 2024 BMW 5 Series

The interior dimensions of the 5-series have slightly increased, ensuring ample space for adult passengers to find comfort in both the front and rear seats. The cabin exudes a luxurious ambiance. While genuine leather upholstery remains available, BMW has introduced a vegan-friendly option called Veganza for environmentally conscious buyers. All models feature an automatic climate control system with cleverly integrated vents that seamlessly blend into the dashboard design.

A standard tilt-and-slide sunroof allows natural light in, but there is also the option to upgrade to a larger, fixed glass roof that extends into the rear-seat area. Additional packages are offered to enhance the seating and convenience features. The Luxury Seating package includes heated and ventilated front seats with extra power adjustments and a massage function. The Premium package adds a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, and more. Opting for the Executive package provides the panoramic glass roof, power rear sunshade, glass interior controls, and an interior camera.

How’s the Infotainment and Connectivity?

Every 5-series model is equipped with a spacious curved digital panel that features a 12.3-inch reconfigurable gauge display and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. This advanced system has already been implemented in other BMW models like the 7-series sedan and the iX electric SUV, and has demonstrated its intuitive nature based on our experience.

While a head-up display is available as an option, all models come standard with features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a Harman/Kardon stereo system, and a video game system called AirConsole, specifically designed by BMW. It’s worth noting that the AirConsole feature is only accessible when the vehicle is parked.
