The Maverick is a cheap, utilitarian vehicle that is approximately as simple and pleasant to drive as a compact SUV. Powertrain options include an economical hybrid system and a turbocharged four-cylinder, both of which propel the truck quickly. The Maverick can also transport a surprising amount of goods, and its crew cab is large and well equipped for the price.

Of course, there are trade-offs. The Maverick has limited towing and off-road capability, and its hard-plastic cabin may be too basic for some. But, ultimately, it succeeds.

A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, a continuously variable automatic gearbox, and front-wheel drive are standard. Ford provides all-wheel drive as an option, but only with the nonhybrid turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The four-door crew cab body type with a 4.5-foot bed is shared by all models.

Chevrolet Corvette
